Meet the team: Matthew Ray
Q: What is your role at Archers Law?
A: I am a solicitor in the Commercial Litigation Team and advise on a variety of contentious matters with a particular focus on contractual disputes.
Q: How long have you been at the firm and a little about your career journey so far?
A: I have been at Archers Law for two and a half years. I joined the Firm in September 2018 to undertake my period of recognised training and qualified as a solicitor in September 2020. I obtained my law degree and masters (with LPC) from the University of Sunderland.
Q: What did you want to be when you were younger?
A: I always had a particular interest in the law and wanted to join the police force in my younger years. I have wanted to qualify as a solicitor since I started studying law in College.
Q: What made you want to pursue a career in law?
A: My brother also practiced law for some time which is what sparked my interest in law from a young age. I have always enjoyed the competitive nature of the profession and have been drawn to areas of law which requires a high level of research and strategic thinking.
Q: Have you always lived in Teesside and what is your favourite thing about the area?
A: I am originally from Hartlepool but now live in Murton, near Sunderland. I do, however, have plans to live in Tees Valley in the near future. My favourite thing about Tees Valley has to be the friendly nature of people.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
A: I really enjoy being active, going to the gym and going on long walks. I also play indoor bowls during the winter months.
Q: One fact/ thing people may not know about you!
A: I represented England at Under 18’s level at Indoor Bowls for a number of years and continue to represent County Durham.
