Emma Smith, Solicitor, Commercial Property
We caught up, virtually of course, with Solicitor, Emma Smith, as she talks about returning to work during the pandemic.
Q: How long have you worked at Archers Law?
I’ve worked at Archers Law since September 2016. I joined as a trainee solicitor and completed a two year training contract with the firm before qualifying as a solicitor in 2018 and joining the Commercial Property team.
Q: What is your role in the firm?
I’m a solicitor in the commercial property team. I have experience in advising a range of companies, charities, commercial organisations and private individuals in relation to all aspects of commercial property work. I also have experience in dealing with freehold and leasehold sales and acquisitions, plot sales for our developer clients and providing corporate support in the property elements of company sales and acquisitions.
Q: When did you return to work?
I returned to work right in the middle of the first lockdown, at the beginning of July 2020 following my maternity leave.
Q: How have you found returning back to your role since the lockdown?
When I returned to work, I called into a very empty looking office back in July to collect my laptop. It's not how I imagined coming back after maternity leave and I have only popped in once or twice since. We have one way systems in place around the office with very limited staff, its quite surreal compared to the usual busy office.
At the moment I’m mainly working from home, as many of the team are. The change to working from home definitely took a little adjusting to at first, but luckily the rest of the team had already been working from home since March, so had put in place all the processes and systems to enable things to go smoothly.
Q: What are you most looking forward to when this is over?
With returning to work during these strange times there are many colleagues and clients who I’ve not seen for well over a year. I’m really looking forward to finally being able to catch up face to face with everyone once we’re hopefully allowed back in the office!
