Meet the team: Debbie Howes
Q: What is your role at Archers Law?
A: Legal Assistant in the Employment Team.
Q: How long have you been at the firm and a little about your career journey so far?
A: I joined Archers in May 2015 as a Legal Secretary in the Employment Team, I became a Legal Assistant a couple of years ago. I qualified as a member legal executive in my younger years, but more recently studied the practice of employment law and took an additional exam two years ago.
Q: What did you want to be when you were younger?
A: A teacher…..until I had the pleasure of working in a school for work experience and thought better of it. Home schooling has also re-confirmed I made the right choice!
Q: What made you want to pursue a career in law?
A: I actually began as a junior accountant in a Law firm – one thing led to another and I had the opportunity to join the conveyancing team at that firm as a trainee legal executive.
Q: Have you always lived in Teesside?
A: I grew up in Lincolnshire. Whilst training as a legal executive I took a 6 months career break to travel around Australia and New Zealand on my own. On my return from travelling I moved and lived in Dubai for 7 years. When my first child was born, we decided to return to the UK, and moved to the Tees Valley.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
A: Running – Great North Run and the London Marathon both completed, and the rest of my time is spent looking after my two children and taking them to do their hobbies!
Q: One fact people may not know about you!
A: I have jumped out of a couple of aeroplanes and bungee jumped off the Kawarau Bridge, whilst in New Zealand.
Q: Are there any funny laws you have come across?
A: I needed my husband’s permission in order to have a driving licence in Dubai!!
